The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), a newly established institution in Southern Kaduna, has officially commenced its first academic session with approximately 2,000 pioneer students. The university, recently approved by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, began academic activities in September 2025, aligning with the Federal Government's directive for new federal universities.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, Prof. Barnabas Quirix, Vice Chancellor of FUASK, described the launch as a landmark achievement contributing to Nigeria's higher education sector. He highlighted that the university's curriculum is tailored to produce self-reliant graduates endowed with entrepreneurial and innovative skills.
Prof. Quirix stated, "We have integrated 30 per cent of our curriculum, as guided by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with courses in Business Enterprise, Environmental Studies and Social Governance." He emphasized the institution's vision, saying, "Our vision is to produce graduates who will not rely solely on government jobs but become problem-solvers and job creators."
The commencement of academic activities at FUASK underscores the Federal Government's commitment to expanding access to higher education and fostering skills development in Nigeria.
