The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has officially banned the unauthorised use of its campus, including hostels and other facilities, for video productions by skitmakers, filmmakers, and content creators.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the institution’s Head of Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the management expressed deep concern over the increasing trend of individuals using the university environment for skits, films, and other cinematographic activities without proper authorisation.

According to the statement, the decision was taken to protect the integrity of UNILAG’s academic environment and to safeguard the institution’s image from being misrepresented in unregulated online content.”

The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorisation,” the statement read in part.

The university noted that it has established procedures guiding the use of its premises for any form of recording or content creation, emphasizing that these procedures are designed to ensure safety, decorum, and the preservation of UNILAG’s reputation.

Any individual or group—whether students, staff, or external collaborators—intending to record video content within the campus must first obtain official approval from the institution’s Communication Unit.

While acknowledging the importance of creativity and free expression, UNILAG maintained that all creative activities within its premises must align with the institution’s regulations and ethical standards.”Members of the University community and the general public are therefore advised to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility,” the statement concluded.
