The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved an additional 50,000 mobilisation slots for the 2026 service year under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. This development is expected to significantly reduce the backlog of graduates waiting to be mobilised for the mandatory one-year national service.

Over the years, many Nigerian graduates from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education have experienced delays in mobilisation due to limited available slots and administrative constraints. With the approval of these extra 50,000 slots, more qualified graduates will now have the opportunity to participate in the NYSC programme without prolonged waiting periods.

According to reports, the expansion is part of the government’s effort to ensure that eligible graduates are mobilised on time while also strengthening the objectives of the NYSC scheme—promoting national unity, youth development, and community service across the country.

The additional slots are expected to take effect during the 2026 mobilisation cycle, giving thousands of prospective corps members a better chance of being deployed for national service.

Graduates awaiting mobilisation are advised to stay updated through official NYSC announcements and ensure that their details on the NYSC portal are correctly submitted through their respective institutions.
