The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede, has stated that the board is not responsible for the non-mobilisation of some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to Oloyede, the responsibility for determining the eligibility of graduates for national service lies with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the institutions that admitted and trained the students. He explained that JAMB’s role is mainly limited to conducting entrance examinations and facilitating admission processes into tertiary institutions.
The JAMB registrar noted that issues surrounding the mobilisation of some HND graduates often arise from irregular admission processes, lack of proper academic records, or institutions failing to upload candidates’ details to the central admission system. When such discrepancies occur, affected graduates may face challenges during NYSC mobilisation.
Oloyede therefore advised polytechnics and other tertiary institutions to ensure that all admissions are properly processed through the official channels to prevent graduates from experiencing difficulties during mobilisation for the mandatory national service.
He also encouraged students to always verify that their admissions are regularised and properly documented within the JAMB system, as this helps ensure that their academic records are recognised when it is time for NYSC mobilisation.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns from HND graduates who have been unable to participate in the national service scheme due to documentation and admission-related issues. JAMB maintained that resolving such cases requires cooperation between institutions, regulatory bodies, and the NYSC.
