SHOCKING SCANDAL: 400-Level UNIBUJA Law Student Arrested Over Alleged Rape of Fresh Undergraduate

A major controversy has erupted at the University of Abuja following the arrest of a 400-level law student over allegations of rape involving a younger undergraduate student, as reported by Punch Newspaper.

According to the report, the suspect, identified as Goodluck Monday, was apprehended by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command after the victim accused him of sexual assault. The disturbing development has since sparked outrage within the university community and beyond, raising serious concerns about student safety and accountability.

Punch Newspaper revealed that the incident began when the victim, a 100-level student, encountered the suspect at the office of the Dean of Student Affairs. During their interaction, the suspect allegedly presented himself as a student leader affiliated with a financial support initiative, a claim that reportedly gained the trust of the victim and led to further communication between them.

What initially appeared to be a harmless connection soon escalated. The suspect allegedly invited the victim to meet him at a location within the Giri axis of Abuja under the guise of continuing their discussion. However, the meeting reportedly turned into a traumatic experience, which later formed the basis of the allegation currently under investigation.

Following the report, police authorities moved swiftly, with officers from the Gwagwalada Division taking the suspect into custody. His arrest reportedly helped to ease growing tension among students, many of whom had begun to express fear and anger over the incident as details started circulating on campus.

The situation has also drawn the attention of the university’s Law Students’ Association, which acknowledged the case and indicated that it is closely monitoring developments. The association emphasized the need for justice while urging students to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could complicate ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the management of the University of Abuja is expected to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure that due process is followed. Although the institution has yet to release a detailed official statement, there are growing calls from stakeholders for stricter measures to protect students, especially newcomers who may be more vulnerable.

Legal observers have noted that cases of this nature require careful and balanced handling. While there is a strong demand for justice and accountability, experts stress the importance of upholding the legal rights of all parties involved until the investigation is concluded and the court delivers its verdict.

This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for increased awareness, stronger institutional safeguards, and improved reporting mechanisms within Nigerian universities to address issues of misconduct and ensure a safer academic environment.

As investigations continue, more verified updates are expected to emerge in the coming days.
