TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN IN MOCK UTME: JAMB MOVES TO FIX SYSTEM FAILURES AHEAD OF MAIN EXAM 🔥
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially reacted to the widespread technical glitches that disrupted the recently conducted Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), assuring candidates that urgent corrective measures are already in progress to prevent a repeat during the main examination.
The mock UTME, which serves as a preparatory test to familiarize candidates with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment, was marred by several challenges across different centres nationwide. Reports from candidates indicated issues such as system malfunctions, server downtimes, delayed logins, sudden shutdown of systems, and in some cases, inability to access the exam portal entirely. These setbacks created panic and frustration among candidates who had hoped to use the mock as a confidence booster ahead of the main UTME.
Despite the challenges, JAMB clarified that the primary objective of the mock examination is to test the strength and reliability of its systems, as well as to identify possible loopholes that could affect the smooth conduct of the main exam. According to the board, the glitches experienced are not unusual for a large-scale digital examination and are part of the evaluation process needed to improve performance.
JAMB further explained that its technical team has already begun a comprehensive review of the issues encountered. This includes upgrading server capacity, improving network infrastructure, optimizing software performance, and strengthening coordination with accredited CBT centres nationwide. The board emphasized that lessons learned from the mock exercise will play a critical role in ensuring a more stable and efficient system during the main UTME.
In addition, the board reassured candidates that no one will be disadvantaged as a result of the mock exam disruptions. Since participation in the mock UTME is optional and does not affect candidates’ final scores, JAMB encouraged students to remain calm and not allow the experience to weaken their confidence or preparation.
Education experts and stakeholders have also weighed in on the situation, urging JAMB to take proactive steps in addressing these technical concerns promptly. They emphasized the importance of a seamless examination process, noting that any form of disruption during the main UTME could negatively impact candidates’ performance and overall credibility of the examination process.
Candidates have been advised to stay focused on their studies, continue practicing past questions, and maintain a positive mindset as the main examination approaches. They are also encouraged to rely only on verified information from official JAMB communication channels to avoid misinformation and unnecessary panic.
As anticipation builds toward the main UTME, the spotlight is now firmly on JAMB to deliver a glitch-free, fair, and transparent examination. With the board’s assurance of urgent intervention and system upgrades, candidates can remain hopeful that their examination experience will be smooth, reliable, and reflective of their true academic abilities.
