The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has responded to growing concerns among students and staff following the renewed threat of industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

In a statement released by the university authorities, UNILAG acknowledged the ongoing dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government over unresolved agreements, funding of universities, and welfare issues affecting lecturers across the country.

The institution reassured students that academic activities are currently continuing as scheduled and urged the university community not to panic. According to the management, lectures, research, and other academic engagements remain ongoing while the institution continues to monitor developments closely.

UNILAG also emphasized that decisions regarding any strike action are taken at the national level of ASUU. Therefore, the university will continue to follow updates and directives from the national leadership of the union while keeping students and staff informed.

Students have been advised to remain calm and rely only on official communication channels of the university for credible information regarding the situation.

The development has once again raised concerns among stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector, with many calling for urgent dialogue between the Federal Government and ASUU to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar.
