JAMB Maintains 2026 UTME/DE Application Fees Amid Economic Pressures — No Increase Announced

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigeria’s apex body for tertiary institution admissions, has officially announced that the application fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) will remain the same — with no increase.

This reassuring announcement comes at a time when many Nigerians are battling economic challenges, inflation, and rising living costs. With education being one of the most vital investments for the future, there had been growing concern among parents, guardians, and prospective candidates about the possibility of a fee hike for the 2026 registration cycle. JAMB’s confirmation has, therefore, come as a huge relief to millions.

According to the Board, the decision to maintain the status quo on registration fees is part of its commitment to fairness, equity, and ensuring that no Nigerian child is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints. In a society where education remains a powerful tool for change and empowerment, keeping UTME/DE fees stable is a step towards inclusivity and national development.

JAMB emphasized that the goal of the Board is not just to conduct exams but to support and encourage academic excellence through an accessible, transparent, and efficient admissions system. By holding the line on fees, the Board is showing empathy for the current realities of Nigerian households.

Educational experts, school administrators, and stakeholders in the sector have praised JAMB for the move, calling it timely and student-friendly. It is widely believed that this action will encourage more students, especially from low-income backgrounds, to register without fear of financial burden.

As preparations gear up for the 2026 UTME/DE registration process, candidates are strongly encouraged to start preparing early, follow verified JAMB updates, and beware of fraudulent agents. JAMB also reminds the public that only accredited CBT centres will be used for registration, and candidates should avoid unofficial platforms.

In summary, this is a welcome development that proves that amidst adversity, there are still institutions that put people first.

For students, parents, and guardians — it’s time to plan, prepare, and press forward with hope and determination. The future is still within reach.
